With regard to the increase of $230 per annum to the salary of Mr. Power, Accountant, and clerk of Deed Registry in the Surveyor General's Office, referred to in Enclosure No. 2 of the abovementioned Despatch, I have to state that in consideration of the extra duties devolving upon him consequent on the resignation of the Overseer of Convicts in May 1849, and the departure of the Honorable William Napier in September last, I thought it but just that his salary, which was reduced to £270 per annum from 16th January 1849, should again be restored to its original amount, viz £300. I trust also for Your Lordship's approval of this trifling increase.
